Fractional Jet Ownership

12 September 2023   General

Perhaps you’ve always dreamed of owning a private jet, but the reality is it’s simply too expensive. For the vast majority of people the cost of owning a private jet is prohibitive, but that doesn’t mean your dream has to be out of reach. Things like fractional jet ownership, private jet charters, and private jet memberships are becoming more popular as people realize that they can use private jets without paying the full cost to own one.

Fractional Jet Ownership

Similar to shared ownership for a home, fractional jet ownership is an arrangement created by several people who agree to share the costs of owning, operating, and maintaining an aircraft. Rather than singular ownership where the aircraft sits in storage for months on end, pitching in and sharing with a group makes it more affordable and also ensures the aircraft is used more frequently. It’s a great solution for everyone.

Cost & Flight Time

Each fractional owner will have a specified number of hours that they can use the aircraft either each month or each year. If everyone owns equal shares in the aircraft then the hours will be split evenly. However, if someone purchases more shares than the other owners, they may be granted more hours due to them owning a larger percentage of the aircraft.

The typical costs include:

  • The capital or acquisition fee
  • Monthly maintenance fee
  • Occupied hour fee
  • Other associated costs, like a monthly management or storage fee

The costs depend on what type of aircraft you want to jointly own, so please contact our team who can help you understand which costs are associated with which aircraft.

Benefits

  • Privacy and convenience: Flying via commercial airports is stressful and you’re often subjected to cancellations and delays. Fractional jet ownership allows you to enjoy the privacy and convenience of flying private without being responsible for the full cost.
  • Flexible availability: Last-minute change of plans or taking a trip with short notice won’t be a problem when you jointly own an aircraft. Buying a plane ticket at short notice isn’t always guaranteed because of availability, and last-minute tickets for commercial flights are extremely pricey.
  • Tax deductions: When you own an aircraft, even if you own it jointly, you might be able to claim depreciation deductions on your federal tax return.

Alternative options

Chartering: Private jet charter is always an option, and while it may cost you more upfront, you won’t incur any of the costs associated with being a fractional aircraft owner. You can charter a private jet through a broker or contact us to learn more.

Private jet memberships: A private jet membership allows people to access private jets by paying a monthly membership fee. If you fly often but don’t want to purchase shares of an aircraft, a private jet membership is an ideal option for you.

What to Look for in a Jet Charter Company

9 May 2023   Monmouth Jet Center

Choosing a jet charter company isn’t as easy of a decision as it may seem on the surface. For those who prefer to charter private jets instead of dealing with commercial flights, it’s all about convenience, safety, comfort, and excellent customer service. Our team at Monmouth Jet Center has put together this guide with important questions that will help you select the best jet charter company for you.

Do They Have a Good History?

We recommend choosing a jet charter company that has been in operation for many years, and that operates across all aspects of private jet chartering. Conduct some internet searches and read client reviews, and don’t be hesitant to contact the company directly and ask for client testimonials. When you choose a well-established charter company, you’re choosing a team that has years of experience with aircraft safety and maintenance, customer service, and more.

Do They Offer Robust Facilities?

The company you choose should have robust facilities for the aircraft, as well as for the passengers and crew members. Just like commercial jets, private jets need regular refueling, maintenance, and repairs, and the jet charter company should offer these services on-site. Also available should be facilities for the passengers and crew members, such as a climate-controlled lounge, bathroom and shower facilities, snacks and drinks, WiFi, and taxis or rental cars to and from the facility.

Number of Available Destinations

Many private jet charter companies operate out of smaller, executive airports that are conveniently located close to many popular destinations. Monmouth Jet Center, for example, is located a very short distance from New York City, the Jersey Shore, Philadelphia, and several other east-coast hot spots.

Is Safety Important to the Jet Charter Company?

When it comes to air travel, safety is the number one priority. Every time you board a private jet you should feel reassured that it’s been properly maintained, inspected, and tested for any potential safety issues. When shopping for jet charter companies, ask about their safety rating as well as their safety record – they should be willing to share this information with you.

2 May 2023   Monmouth Jet Center

If you are already flying privately why not take advantage of FBO services and make the entire experience more enjoyable and relaxing? There are many advantages of FBO services for private jet travelers, our team explains more.

What is an FBO?

An FBO is an airport business that handles private aviation, such as private charter flights, refuelling, maintenance, private hangar space, and other private aircraft-related matters. What You Need to Know About Flying in Extreme Weather

11 January 2022   Learn to Fly

If you’ve ever experienced flying in extreme weather then you know how frightening it can be. A little bit of turbulence every now and then is completely normal, but when you’re on a flight and the weather conditions include heavy rain, thunder, lightning, strong winds, snow, severe fog, or extreme heat, it can affect the aircraft and the quality of your trip

It’s important to remember that pilots are trained to fly in extreme weather, so while it’s a scary experience as a passenger, pilots have the necessary training to keep the situation under control. There may be times where the weather conditions are so severe that the pilots deem it unsafe to fly, or they may make an emergency landing. Here’s how the pilots, and other team members at Monmouth Jet Center make that judgment call:

How do pilots and airlines prepare for bad weather conditions?

Airlines constantly monitor weather conditions to ensure the safety of everyone on board, and modern commercial aircraft are built to accommodate extreme weather. For example, in heavy fog when there’s no visibility, many aircraft have an autopilot feature so the plane can land even when there’s low visibility.

Strong winds can cause turbulence, but this is common in the air. Pilots will maneuver the aircraft as steadily as possible when strong winds occur. When it comes to flying in snow or ice however, pilots must be more aware of the condition of the runway. This is because ice can quickly build up and cause dangerous landing conditions.

What weather conditions are considered too extreme for any aircraft to fly?

There are times when airlines and pilots will deem it unsafe to fly. Heavy snow or blizzards can make landing and taking off too dangerous, while lightning storms can be very hazardous to any aircraft. Extreme heat can also interfere with an aircraft’s performance, so in hotter parts of the world, extreme temperatures can cause significant delays.

We would all like to take flights with zero interference from the weather conditions, but chances are you’ve experienced turbulence, heavy fog, rain, or snow while on an airplane at least once before. Rest assured that commercial aircraft are built to withstand extreme weather conditions, and pilots are trained to safely navigate through adverse weather.
